Making a VvE stairwell safer without full renovation

Renovating a VvE stairwell is a decision that requires a meeting, a quotation, a majority vote and implementation planning. That takes time — sometimes years.
But a stairwell accident does not wait.
When the anti-slip of the existing treads is worn or was never present, an interim solution is sometimes necessary. GripStep Pro provides that solution — without a full renovation being needed. The broader framework of requirements for such stairwells can be found in stair renovation for owners' associations and commercial buildings.
What is GripStep Pro?
GripStep Pro is an anti-slip system made of recycled natural stone composite, developed specifically for professional applications.
GripStep Pro complies with:
- NEN 7909 — the Dutch standard for anti-slip on stairs in buildings.
- Fire class Bfl-s1 — relevant for escape routes and communal stairwells.
The system is professionally bonded over the existing stair nosing — without treads having to be removed or replaced.
Which situations is GripStep Pro intended for?
VvE stairwells where the existing anti-slip is worn.
Apartment buildings waiting for approval for a full renovation.
Care buildings, schools and offices where demonstrable anti-slip in accordance with NEN 7909 is legally required.
Situations where the appearance must remain intact but safety is urgent. Why grip weighs heavily in these buildings can be found in why anti-slip matters in apartment buildings.
What is the difference from GripStep Home?
GripStep Home is intended for private homes. GripStep Pro is developed for professional use — with the corresponding performance for anti-slip (NEN 7909) and fire class (Bfl-s1). The background to that fire classification can be found in why fire classification matters in a VvE stairwell.
Does GripStep Pro replace a full stair renovation?
No. GripStep Pro is an anti-slip solution — not a complete stair finish. For a full renovation of the stairwell, EverStep Solid is the designated solution, with NEN 7909, fire class Bfl-s1 and emission performance at Indoor Air Comfort Gold level.
But GripStep Pro offers an interim solution in accordance with NEN 7909 when a full renovation is not possible in the short term.
How does a VvE request GripStep Pro?
Via omnistair.nl a VvE board member or facility manager can request an appointment. A selected installer with system knowledge assesses the situation on site and prepares a quotation.
