Colour trends 2027 for your staircase

Soft greens, warm neutrals and deep accents. These tones come from Colours Beyond 2027+, the colour forecast by NCS — the colour system architects and designers work with worldwide. We selected nine and show them on an existing staircase: colour on the treads and nosings, risers and side panels left white.

In stone 4.3 mm thin, with colour and anti-slip structure combined in one hard-wearing top layer. Every tone is mixed to its exact NCS code and applied to real treads.

Every visualisation carries its NCS code, so you and your specifier are talking about exactly the same tone. These are digital colour impressions: always judge the final colour against a physical sample in your own daylight.

Where do these colours come from?

NCS Colour in Stockholm developed Colours Beyond 2027+ together with the NCS Forecast Council, an international group of colour and design experts. Their research defines three colour areas: Pale (light and calm), Dull Pale (soft and powdery) and Dark (deep and earthy). Our nine tones are drawn from those three areas. The names are our own; the NCS codes are official.

We then checked the direction against two other forecasts. Dulux named Soulful Sage™ its Colour of the Year 2027; trend forecaster WGSN and colour authority Coloro chose Luminous Blue. Neither is an exact match for our tones, but they point the same way: green, blue and earthy tones.

Alongside the nine NCS tones there is a tenth: a sage green matched to Soulful Sage™ by Dulux. It is a different colour from mineral green — greyer and softer.
