Stair renovation training — what do you need to become a professional?

Stair renovation looks simple. Placing a tread over an existing staircase — how hard can that be?
In practice it is a craft. Measuring, material choice, adhesive technique, execution tolerances, connection to existing structures, finishing of corners and seams — there are dozens of decisions per staircase that make the difference between a professional end result and a visibly imperfect one.
What basic knowledge is needed?
A professional stair renovator has knowledge of measuring and technical drawing insight, the material properties of different systems, substrate preparation such as cleaning, levelling and adhesion, adhesive and bonding systems and their processing requirements, the finishing of stair nosings, corners and connections, and safety aspects such as anti-slip, dimensioning and stability.
Is there a recognised training for stair renovation?
In the Netherlands there is no officially recognised diploma specifically for stair renovation. There are related vocational trainings — in the flooring trade, the painting trade or the construction trade — that provide relevant basic knowledge.
System-specific knowledge is usually obtained through the supplier or manufacturer.
How does the system training at Omnistair work?
Installers who want to install Omnistair systems follow a system training. That training covers the material properties and application requirements, correct measuring and preparation, the installation of EverStep, Signature and EverStep Solid, and the finishing requirements for professional end results.
Installers with demonstrable system knowledge have access to the full Omnistair portfolio, project support and the Experience Center.
Is the system training mandatory?
For installing Omnistair systems: yes. Installation by installers without system training is not permitted and falls outside the warranty conditions.

Via omnistair.com you can request a dealer consultation to discuss what joining the network looks like. The full process is described in becoming a stair renovation dealer.
Why it is best to work directly with the manufacturer is covered in stair renovation importer, manufacturer or wholesaler. And how Omnistair compares to other parties is covered in manufacturers of overlay stair treads in the Netherlands and Europe.
