The difference between Omnistair and traditional stair renovation

Verschil tussen traditionele traprenovatie en natuursteen

Traditional stair renovation works on a simple principle: a new finishing layer over the existing staircase. Omnistair shares that principle. But the execution is fundamentally different.

Material

Traditional: laminate, PVC or HPL — all with a printed top layer on a plastic or wood-fibre core. Omnistair: recycled natural stone composite — no print, real stone structure and high mechanical strength. What overlay treads are made of exactly, and how the build-ups differ, is covered in the in-depth material article.

Thickness

Traditional: 12 to 18 mm for laminate and HPL, 4 to 8 mm for PVC. Omnistair: 4.3 mm — thinner than all common alternatives. In most cases no cutting back of stair noses needed.

Anti-slip

Traditional: separate strip, coating or profiled metal nosing — always an added element. Omnistair: integrated into the mineral structure of the material — no separate element.

Technical documentation

Traditional: generally limited technical substantiation for professional applications. Omnistair EverStep Solid: available with additional technical documentation on slip resistance, fire behaviour and emission performance for professional and commercial projects.

Quality assurance

Traditional: dependent on the individual craftsman — the carpenter model. Omnistair: system-based quality assurance via installers with system knowledge — protocol, training, warranty structure.

Field of application

Traditional: homes. Omnistair: homes, owners' associations, care institutions, schools, offices, architectural projects.

What does this mean in practice?

An Omnistair renovation usually takes one working day and delivers an end result that stays representative for a long time — without recurring maintenance such as repainting or re-treating.

Would you like to see the full playing field? In comparing stair renovation systems all common systems are placed fairly side by side. And which stair renovation suits me helps translate the comparison to your own staircase. What the Omnistair system is at its core and why multiple product lines exist side by side can be found in Omnistair's background pages.

Frequently asked questions

The material — recycled natural stone composite with a real stone structure, integrated anti-slip and 4.3 mm thickness — instead of laminate or PVC with a printed top layer.

Yes. EverStep Solid is available with additional technical documentation for professional and commercial projects.

In most cases not. Due to the 4.3 mm thickness the system fits directly over the existing tread.

At purchase usually yes. Over the lifespan the comparison is more complex due to higher wear resistance and no periodic maintenance.

Only installers with system knowledge — trained on the specific system.
