Before
AfterSocial apartment stair renovation Bodegraven — EverStep Solid
Four staircases, 64 treads, two landings. During the conversion of a historic carpentry mill into social apartments in Bodegraven, the existing stair construction had become dangerous. EverStep Solid was the only solution that was structurally sound, fire-safe and anti-slip — within the existing stair form.
What was solved here?
A historic stair that had become dangerous
During the conversion of the former Van den Oudenrijn carpentry mill into social apartments, a serious safety problem emerged. The new fire-retardant floor build-up raised the finished floor level — throwing the existing stair proportions completely out of balance.
The treads had become too shallow. According to management, several falls had already occurred in the old situation. The stair had to become not just safer, but also meet anti-slip, fire-safety and daily intensive use by residents.
The extra complication: the classic stair construction was nowhere completely true. Every tread had slightly different dimensions. Standard systems were practically not applicable here.

Left: the raised floor created a too-shallow tread depth — the stair became dangerous. Right: solved by precisely building up the treads so the walking line feels natural again and everything is neatly finished.

EverStep Solid finish within the existing classic stair construction.
The structural problem solved, not masked
First, all old staples, nails and glue residues were completely removed so the stair construction could be rebuilt stably. Then the treads were precisely levelled and rebuilt — so the walking line became safer, the tread depth feels better, and the renovation stays entirely within the existing stringers.
Because nothing ran true on the stair, custom work on every tread was essential. Precisely this detail — which a standard system cannot deliver — makes the final result so clean. All joints are fully chamfered so dirt has no chance around seams or gaps.
